Privacy Policy

Yesterday is a personal memory app. You put things in — notes, screenshots, voice notes — and later ask questions and get answers drawn only from what you saved. This policy explains what we collect, why, and your choices. We built Yesterday to be private by default, and we don't sell your data. Ever.

What we store

Everything in Yesterday is content you choose to save:

• Text notes you type or share into the app.
• Images (photos and screenshots) you add, and the text extracted from them by on-device text recognition.
• Voice notes you record, and their transcripts produced by on-device speech recognition.
• Optional location attached to a memory, only if you grant location permission.
• Account identifier if you sign in (a Sign in with Apple user ID, or an anonymous ID otherwise) so your data can sync.
• Phone number, only if you choose to link one for the text-message feature.

We do not collect advertising identifiers, contacts, browsing history, or analytics about how you use the app.

Where your data lives

• On your device. Your memories are stored locally; your phone is the source of truth.
• In your private cloud space. To back up and sync across your devices, your memories are stored in Google Firebase (Firestore and Cloud Storage) under your account. Access is restricted so that only your signed-in account can read or write your data.

Third parties that process your data

• Google Firebase (Google LLC): authentication, database sync, and file storage.
• Anthropic (Claude): when you ask a question, your question and the specific saved memories relevant to it are sent to Anthropic's API to generate the answer. This happens only at the moment you ask. Anthropic does not use data submitted through its API to train its models.
• Twilio: only if you enable the optional text-message feature, the messages you send to your Yesterday number are processed by Twilio to deliver them to your account.

We share data with these providers solely to operate the features you use. We never sell your data or use it for advertising.

Your choices and controls

• Export everything. Settings → Export all data gives you a .zip of your memories (as JSON) plus your original media.
• Delete everything. Settings → Delete Everything permanently removes your memories.
• Permissions. Microphone, speech recognition, photo access, and location are all optional and requested only when you use the related feature. You can change them anytime in iOS Settings.

Data retention

Your memories are kept until you delete them, either individually (swipe to delete) or all at once (Delete Everything). Deleting removes them from your device and your cloud storage.

Children

Yesterday is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect data from them.

Changes to this policy

If we change this policy, we'll update the effective date above and, for significant changes, notify you in the app.
